## How to Drain a Truma Water Heater
### Materials You’ll Need:
– Bucket or drain hose
– Screwdriver
– Gloves (optional)
### Step-by-Step Instructions:
#### 1. Gather Your Materials
Before you begin, ensure you have all the necessary materials. A bucket or drain hose, a screwdriver, and gloves are all you need.
#### 2. Remove the Lower Access Panel
Locate the lower access panel on the front of the water heater. It is usually a small, rectangular panel held in place by a few screws. Remove the screws and lift off the panel.
#### 3. Open the Drain Valve
Inside the access panel, you’ll find a small, white drain valve. Turn the valve counterclockwise using your hand or a screwdriver to open it.
#### 4. Allow the Water to Drain
Place the bucket or attach the drain hose to the valve outlet. Allow the water to drain completely into the bucket or drain.
#### 5. Close the Drain Valve
Once the water has drained, turn the drain valve clockwise to close it.
#### 6. Reset the Water Heater
If the water heater has been drained for an extended period, you may need to reset it. Turn off the water supply, then turn off and back on the electricity to the water heater.
#### 7. Check for Leaks
After refilling the water heater, check for any leaks around the drain valve. If you notice any leaks, tighten the valve or replace it if necessary.
### Additional Tips:
– If you are draining the water heater for winter storage, make sure to add a few gallons of RV antifreeze to the tank before closing the drain valve.
– If the drain valve is stuck open, you can try using a pair of pliers to gently close it.
– If you are having difficulty draining the water heater, contact a qualified RV technician.
### Troubleshooting:
– Water is not draining from the drain valve: Ensure the drain valve is fully open. If it is, there may be a blockage in the valve or drain line. Remove the drain valve and clean it with a wire or brush.
– Water is leaking from the drain valve: Close the drain valve tightly. If the leak persists, the valve may need to be replaced.
– Water heater is not heating properly: If the water heater has been drained and refilled, it may need to be reset. Turn off the water supply, then turn off and back on the electricity to the water heater.
