2. Allow the water heater to reach the desired temperature before using hot water.
Troubleshooting
If you are having problems with your water heater, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:
– The water heater is not producing hot water.
– Check that the gas supply is turned on.
– Check that the cold water supply valve is open.
– Check that the thermostat is set to the desired temperature.
– Check that the burner is igniting properly.
– The water heater is producing too much hot water.
– Adjust the thermostat to a lower temperature setting.
– Check that the hot water outlet line is not kinked or blocked.
– The water heater is leaking.
– Inspect the water heater for any visible leaks.
– Tighten any loose fittings.
– Replace any damaged parts.
### Maintenance
Annual Maintenance
Once a year, you should perform the following maintenance tasks on your water heater:
– Inspect the anode rod. The anode rod is a sacrificial anode that helps to protect the water heater from corrosion. If the anode rod is less than 6 inches long, it should be replaced.
– Flush the water heater. Flushing the water heater removes sediment and scale from the tank. To flush the water heater, follow these instructions:
1. Turn off the gas supply to the water heater.
2. Close the cold water supply valve.
3. Open the hot water faucets in your home.
4. Open the drain valve at the bottom of the water heater.
5. Allow the water heater to drain completely.
6. Close the drain valve.
7. Turn on the cold water supply valve.
8. Turn on the gas supply to the water heater.
– Inspect the burner. Check the burner for any signs of damage or corrosion. If the burner is damaged, it should be replaced.
Periodic Maintenance
In addition to the annual maintenance tasks, you should also perform the following periodic maintenance tasks:
– Check the gas pressure. The gas pressure should be checked every 2-3 years. If the gas pressure is too low, the water heater will not heat properly. If the gas pressure is too high, the water heater could be damaged.
– Inspect the vent system. The vent system should be inspected every 5-10 years. If the vent system is blocked or damaged, the water heater could produce carbon monoxide.
### Warranty
The A.O. Smith ProLine water heater is backed by a 10-year limited warranty. The warranty covers parts and labor for 10 years from the date of purchase.
