## How to Make a Water Dispenser Science Project
### Materials
1-gallon plastic water bottle
Utility knife
Duct tape
2 empty 2-liter soda bottles
Scissors
T-shirt
Rubber bands
Drinking straw
### Instructions
1. Cut the bottom off the water bottle. Use the utility knife to carefully cut around the bottom of the water bottle, about 2 inches from the bottom.
2. Tape the cut edge of the water bottle to the rim of one of the 2-liter soda bottles. Make sure that the cut edge of the water bottle is flush with the rim of the soda bottle. Use duct tape to secure the water bottle to the soda bottle.
3. Cut the bottom off the other 2-liter soda bottle. Use the scissors to carefully cut around the bottom of the other 2-liter soda bottle, about 2 inches from the bottom.
4. Invert the second soda bottle and insert it into the first soda bottle. The cut edge of the second soda bottle should fit snugly inside the first soda bottle.
5. Secure the two soda bottles together with rubber bands. Wrap several rubber bands around the two soda bottles to hold them together.
6. Cut a hole in the side of the first soda bottle. Use the utility knife to carefully cut a hole in the side of the first soda bottle, about 2 inches from the bottom. The hole should be large enough to fit the drinking straw.
7. Insert the drinking straw into the hole. Push the drinking straw into the hole in the side of the first soda bottle.
8. Cover the top of the water bottle with a T-shirt. Stretch the T-shirt over the top of the water bottle and secure it with a rubber band.
### How It Works
The water dispenser works by using gravity to pull water from the water bottle into the soda bottles. When you open the valve on the bottom of the first soda bottle, water will flow out of the water bottle and into the soda bottle. The water will then flow out of the soda bottle through the drinking straw.
The T-shirt over the top of the water bottle prevents water from evaporating out of the water bottle. This helps to keep the water cool and fresh.
### Tips
You can use any size plastic water bottle or soda bottle for this project.
You can also use a different type of valve for the bottom of the first soda bottle.
If you want to make the water dispenser more portable, you can attach a handle to the top of the second soda bottle.
### Science Fair Project Ideas
This water dispenser science project can be used to investigate a variety of scientific concepts, including:
Gravity
Fluid dynamics
Evaporation
Water conservation
Here are some ideas for science fair projects that you could do with this water dispenser:
How does the height of the water bottle affect the flow rate of the water?
How does the size of the hole in the side of the first soda bottle affect the flow rate of the water?
How does the temperature of the water affect the flow rate of the water?
How can you use the water dispenser to conserve water?
These are just a few ideas for science fair projects that you could do with this water dispenser. Be creative and come up with your own project!
