## How to Plumb a Kitchen Handwash Sink
Plumbers charge a lot of money to install a kitchen sink. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you can save a lot of money by doing it yourself. There are some things that you need to know before you start.
### Tools and Materials Checklist
* Adjustable wrench
* Basin wrench
* Channel Lock pliers
* Flashlight
* Hacksaw
* Level
* Measuring tape
* Plumber’s putty
* Pipe dope
* PVC cement
* Strainer
* Sink
* Shut-off valves
* Faucet
* Supply lines
### Shut Off Water Supply
Locate the water shut-off valves under the sink and turn them off. If your sink doesn’t have shut-off valves, you will have to turn off the main water supply to your house.
### Remove the Old Sink
1. Disconnect the water supply lines from the old faucet using an adjustable wrench.
2. Disconnect the drain line from the old sink using a basin wrench.
3. Remove the old sink by lifting it up and out of the cabinet.
### Install the New Sink
1. Apply a bead of plumber’s putty around the rim of the new sink.
2. Carefully place the new sink into the cabinet and press down on it to evenly distribute the plumber’s putty.
3. Level the sink using the level and make sure that it is centered in the cabinet.
4. Secure the sink to the cabinet using the mounting brackets that came with the sink.
### Install the Faucet
1. Apply a bead of pipe dope to the threads of the faucet.
2. Screw the faucet into the sink hole and tighten it using an adjustable wrench.
3. Connect the water supply lines to the faucet.
4. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.
### Install the Drain
1. Apply a bead of plumber’s putty to the flange of the drain.
2. Insert the drain into the sink hole and tighten it using an adjustable wrench.
3. Connect the drain line to the drain.
4. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.
### Install the Strainer
1. Insert the strainer into the drain hole.
2. Tighten the strainer using a screwdriver.
### Test the Sink
1. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks.
2. Make sure that the drain is working properly.
3. If you are satisfied with the installation, you can now use your new kitchen handwash sink.
